So I watched the Gina Carano/Kaitlin Young MMA fight tonight. Pretty interesting, and I'm glad Gina won.
But geeze, Young, what the hell? If you want to try leading kicks to open up, you may want to keep your left up- because you're gonna get Gina's stick left jab. And it's hard. Oh it may not do any damage, at first. Then you get to the 2nd round, after you've been pounded with it half a dozen times, and you start to feel it, and you're gonna react with your right- and then you'll be wide open for the right Hook. And btw? Gina's shoulders are waaaay wider than yours, and that hook is gonna have a lot of room. And you're gonna look like a human punching bag.
My first thought- if you're gonna fight Gina and you expect to stand there and trade punches, you're nuts.
And LOL- poor Gina. She kinda projects the 'big, shy, well-meaning, but not very bright' persona. And she almost lost her focus there. "Gina, was that your toughest fight?" "Eh..not real.....er...I mean....oh yeah, Kaitlin is great and I respect her and it was my toughest fight!"
And she meant it! Honest!
Gina not only needs more training time, she needs to learn how to handle interviews and speaking in front of the camera better. But, part of that helps her, because she seems so vulnerable up there in those situations, you can't BUT love her. It makes it really easy to root for her.
My first real exposure to MMA. As I suspected, the female match was the most entertaining. In fact the first two were over in like a MINUTE each. Way back, when it MEANT something, I was pretty big boxing fan- back when there were REAL boxers around. The men fights don't really do anything for me so far, but its been interesting.
